the 'hydrino' promise!

Guardian Unlimited: Fuel's paradise? Power source that turns physics on its head

In short, they are offering one of those miracle energy source here - produce energy (heat) from an abundant natural resource (water) with no major environmental impacts, and do it cheaper than ever!

And to do this, they have to prove the existing Quantum mechanics theories wrong!

GreenPeace USA's research director, Kert Davies: "Our stance is of cautious optimism".

I concur!

Yes indeed, and to be fair to Rathke of ESTEC advanced concepts or whatever, he at least states at the beginning of his paper that the experimental evidence is good - http://www.iop.org/EJ/article/1367-2630/7/1/127/njp5_1_127.html

"Applications of these alleged states have already been considered. In particular, the NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts has funded a study to investigate new propulsion concepts based on the transition of conventional hydrogen states to hydrino states [5].

Although the hydrino model has received considerable public attention, the discussion of the underlying theory has mainly been restricted to the sweeping statement that the hydrino model is in contradiction to quantum mechanics and hence dubious (cf e.g. [6]). This lack of theoretical consideration is particularly unfortunate in view of the wealth of experimental evidence that has been published in peer reviewed journals in favour of the hydrino model [1]-[4], [7]-[22]."

The public attention is due for anyone or anything who would dare to make claims like 'can produce energy from water, and look ma, no pollution', or thats how it sounds in Joe Blogger world!

As I said, I would take it with a pinch of salt for now, and really really hope that they walk their talk!

Yes, well, someone said the Wheeler de Witt equation might allow fractional quantum numbers - but that's the basis for Loop quantum gravity and hence perhaps partly for Heim theory, both of which are essentially quantum - relativity theories. The latter has elements of hidden variables in it - but non-local, let it be noted. can't get over the interconnectedness of all things, living and dead.
